The Scaled-Up Balmain 1945 Bag

Balmain never fails to deliver on the drama, and it was the French brand’s signature Parisian spirit that inspired their newest It-bag: the 1945.

The oversized style inspired a viral fashion statement even before it hit the runway. It finally made its semi-virtual debut at Paris Fashion Week, and even through a pixelated screen, the house’s new signature P and B motif (an homage to Pierre Balmain’s love of French labyrinth gardens) had me dreaming of running around the gritty streets of Le Marias and strolling through the charming promenades of the 16th arrondissement.

The two-toned leather and jacquard against gilded embellishments embodies the glamour that runs deep in the brand’s DNA, melded with a modern disposition. It’s reminiscent of the house’s early midcentury styles—but with creative director Olivier Rousteing’s distinct vision.

Convertible into four silhouettes, from an easy over-the-shoulder style to a roomy shopping tote, the bag can transition easily from denim and an oversized blazer to a black mini dress for evening. And let’s be honest, everything works with black and white.
